Nolans Project breaks ground after 25 years of development

Major projects don’t happen overnight. Today’s groundbreaking for the Nolans Project shows what long-term commitment and persistence can achieve.

A milestone more than two decades in the making, and a major step forward for the Territory’s economic future.

Darwin Major Business Group congratulates Arafura Rare Earths on today’s groundbreaking for the Nolans Project near Alice Springs.

Arafura acquired the Nolans tenements in 2001. Reaching construction reflects 25 years of technical development, investment, commercial negotiations and sustained commitment. The company’s successive leadership teams, employees and shareholders deserve recognition for carrying this project forward.

We also acknowledge Traditional Owners, project partners and the support of the Australian and Northern Territory Government’s in reaching this milestone.

With around 600 construction jobs and 350 ongoing operational roles expected, Nolans offers an opportunity to strengthen Central Australia’s economy for decades.

Its integrated mining and processing model is particularly significant. Processing resources here builds industrial capability and skilled employment, while strengthening Australia’s contribution to the supply chains supporting advanced manufacturing, defence and energy technologies.

For Alice Springs, the opportunity extends across transport, logistics, maintenance, accommodation, training and professional services, with benefits reaching businesses across the Territory.
